1st-8th Grade
Join us for the PARPC 1st-8th Grade Basketball program and stay active this winter! Season runs December through February and focuses on learning the game in a safe and fun atmosphere.
2024-2025 BASKETBALL PROGRAM INFORMATION – PRACTICES AND GAMES:
- PRESEASON INFORMATION: Players will participate in 3-4 pre-season practices starting the week of December 9th until Christmas Break. Coach will contact you by November 18th with the schedule for practices. Please take note all coaches do not email their players on the same day. However, if you do not hear from a coach by November 18th; please double check your SPAM email on the email you provided to us at registration, then email hhershey@palmyrarec.org
- COACHES: Mandatory (45 minute) Coaches meeting November 14th at 5:30pm in the Palmyra Area High School Cafe, next to the gymnasium. Please park in the back of the High School in the rear parking lot and enter in the gymnasium doors which are the large main entrance doors on the left side. Address is 1125 Park Drive, Palmyra, PA. All Coaches must supply a recent (4 years or less) Child Abuse Clearance and State Police Criminal Background Check before the first game. The PARPC meeting will be 35-45 minutes and followed by a quick coaches clinic lead by Coach Tim Bean afterwards in the gym, right next to the cafe.
- GYM USAGE: We will do our best to maintain the same school every week for your practices and games. This will not necessarily be the school your child attends.
- REGULAR SEASON INFORMATION- After Christmas break, you will have practices and games separate days depending on court availability and athlete schedules. Time frames will vary. Practices and games will be mostly one time each per week, and about 50-60 minutes for 3rd-8th grade and 45 minutes for 1st & 2nd grade. We appreciate your flexibility if schedule changes need to be made.
- 1&2 Grade practices will be Monday through Friday at Forge or Northside Elementary with no weekend games. Please be sure to note on the registration of the weekdays your child is UNAVAILABLE. A new schedule is created each year to accommodate as many athletes as possible. All games are at Forge Elementary Monday through Friday.
- 3rd-8th Grade Games Schedule– BOYS play at Pine Street Elementary the first two Saturdays of season (January 4th & 11th), and the remaining games will be at Lingle Elementary. Games will be on Saturdays starting with 6th -8th grade games in the morning then moving to 3rd-5th grade games to late morning and afternoon. GIRLS at Pine Street Elementary during the week. Be sure to note days your athlete is UNAVAILABLE on the registration form.
- Our three age groups are by grade with a boys division and a girls division: First & Second; Third, Fourth, and Fifth; and Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth. We will offer seven to eight games per team through January and February and a December 2 week preseason.
- Practices for all divisions are weekdays determined by athlete availability.
- Athlete should wear the team t-shirt (included) to every game. Team shirts are not required at practices.
- Athletes should bring their own basketball and water bottle– both with their names written on. If you do not have a basketball, one will be provided to you to borrow while at practice. Basketball sizes are 27.5 for all first and second graders and 28.5 for all third through eighth graders.
- CANCELLATIONS: If school is cancelled due to weather for the entire day or an early dismissal there will be no PARPC practices. If school has a 1 or 2 hour delay but finish a full day of school you will have practice unless you hear otherwise from your coach. GAMES: Same policy as weekday practices (above) and on weekend games the Referees/PARPC make the call on cancellations of games and will contact coaches who will contact their athletes. Decisions on weather are made in the afternoon, the day of the game.
- Basketball PARTICIPATION CERTIFICATES are available for pickup only upon request and you must email hhershey@palmyrarec.org by February 13th, 2025 for a certificate. Certificates must be picked up by February 27th.
- Program emphasizes learning the game and having fun with equal playtime on the courts with no medals or awards given. Youth recreational sports are chosen in an effort to develop skills and a love for the game, so children learn a healthy, positive, and active lifestyle.
